CRABS: Congruent rate analyses in birth–death scenarios
نویسندگان
چکیده
Diversification rates inferred from phylogenies are not identifiable if the allowed to vary freely over time. There infinitely many combinations of speciation and extinction rate functions that have exact same likelihood score for a given phylogeny, building congruence class. The specific shape characteristics such classes yet been studied. Whether within class share common features is also known. Prior hypotheses typically render diversification identifiable, but results then depend on these priori assumptions. To test robustness hypotheses, we use two different approaches explore classes: (i) constructing congruent models under alternative (ii) sampling function Our methods implemented in open-source R package CRABS (https://github.com/afmagee/CRABS). provides flexible approach summaries can highlight trends, is, increasing, flat or decreasing rates. Although there equally likely functions, features. be used assess patterns robust despite non-identifiability birth–death model. In our example, clearly identify three phases changes among all which sampled Thus, necessarily problem studying historical biodiversity phylogenies.

Robotic crabs reveal that female fiddler crabs are sensitive to changes in male display rate
Males often produce dynamic, repetitive courtship displays that can be demanding to perform and might advertise male quality to females. A key feature of demanding displays is that they can change in intensity: escalating as a male increases his signalling effort, but de-escalating as a signaller becomes fatigued. Here, we investigated whether female fiddler crabs, Uca mjoebergi, are sensitive ...
متن کاملProportion Congruent effects in the absence of Sequential Congruent effects
A debated question in the cognitive control field is whether cognitive control is best conceptualized as a collection of distinct control mechanisms or a single general purpose mechanism. In an attempt to answer this question, previous studies have dissociated two well-known effects related to cognitive control: sequential congruence and proportion congruent effects. In the present experiment, ...
متن کاملComparative analyses of olfactory systems in terrestrial crabs (Brachyura): evidence for aerial olfaction?
Adaptations to a terrestrial lifestyle occurred convergently multiple times during the evolution of the arthropods. This holds also true for the "true crabs" (Brachyura), a taxon that includes several lineages that invaded land independently. During an evolutionary transition from sea to land, animals have to develop a variety of physiological and anatomical adaptations to a terrestrial life st...
متن کاملOn Computing the Breakpoint Reuse Rate in Rearrangement Scenarios
In the past years, many combinatorial arguments have been made to support the theory that mammalian genome rearrangement scenarios rely heavily on breakpoint reuse. Different models of genome rearrangements have been suggested, from the classical set of operations that include inversions, translocations, fusions and fissions, to more elaborate models that include transpositions. Here we show th...
متن کاملSpermiogenesis in Cancer Crabs
Spermiogenesis in Cancer crabs was studied by light and electron microscopy. The sperm are aflagellate, and when mature consist primarily of a spherical acrosome surrounded by the nucleus with its short radiating arms. The acrosome forms by a coalescence of periodic acid-Schiff-positive (PAS-positive) vesicles. During spermiogenesis one edge of the acrosomal vesicle invaginates to form a PAS-ne...
